Choosing when to schedule your family photos doesn’t have to be stressful. Whether you’re dreaming of wildflowers, golden leaves, or cozy sweaters, each season brings its own kind of magic. Here’s everything you need to know to find the perfect time for your session.

Best Time of Day: Why Golden Hour is Queen

Soft light = dreamy photos. I always recommend shooting during golden hour, that magical window just after sunrise or before sunset. It’s flattering, gentle, and gives your photos that warm, glowing feel.

Morning sessions work well for families with young kids, while evening golden hour gives the most classic, romantic light.

Seasonal Vibes & When to Book

Spring – Light and airy colors, wildflowers, and new beginnings
→ Book early! March–May dates fill fast.

Summer – Long golden evenings, lush greens, and playful energy
→ Best for late evening golden hour, especially with older kids.

Fall – Rich tones, crisp air, and changing leaves
→ The most popular season by far. Book early for September–early November.

Winter – Cozy textures, deeper colors, and intimate, relaxed sessions
→ Ideal for neutral outfits, earthy tones, and snuggly moments.

How Far in Advance Should I Book?

I typically recommend reaching out at least 6–8 weeks ahead, especially for fall and spring. If you need a weekend date or have a specific location in mind, the earlier, the better!

Final Tip

No matter the season, the best time to book is when your family feels ready to slow down and connect. I’ll capture the magic, whenever it happens.
